The new Health and Safety At Work Act is now with us

March 31, 2016

The regulator, Work Safe NZ, is now in the position to enforce changes to the way New Zealanders work with health and safety. Our requirements have been set to parallel those of Australia, a huge benefit if we see where the complacency is creeping in there.

The most notable change is the commitment of the Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBU) to commit 100% to health and safety - there is no insuring against or opting out to minimise exposure to fines or penalties.

Other areas include;

- the requirement to address risk to health and safety in the workplace

- consultation among all parties to improve health and safety

- a more in depth break down of the minimisation of hazards

The flow chart above is a useful addition to the front cover of the worksheet.
